Are we an academic school?
This is a question that often comes up among parents looking for the right school for their child.
Our answer is that at Maple Bear Sofia, we work to help every student reach their full academic potential. Since each child is unique, we apply a differentiated approach to teaching: we provide additional challenges for students who progress quickly, while supporting those who need more help to catch up.
We do this by following the motto of the Canadian education system:
“No one is left behind.”
Canada ranks among the top-performing countries in the PISA assessments, which measure how well 15-year-old students can apply their knowledge and skills in reading, mathematics, and science to solve real-world problems.
Back to Bulgaria and our school. At Maple Bear Sofia, we follow a hybrid educational model: part of the school day is dedicated to the Canadian Maple Bear program, and the other part to the Bulgarian curriculum, aligned with the requirements of the Ministry of Education.
Our students in Bulgaria consistently achieve high results on the national external assessments at the end of Grade 4:
2024: Bulgarian Language and Literature — 91.79 points; Mathematics — 89.79 points
2025: Bulgarian Language and Literature — 85.46 points; Mathematics — 89.29 points
We also support academically ambitious students with competitive mathematics classes (Grades 2–4) as part of the standard school day, and with preparation for national competitions such as:
- Mathematics without Borders
- European Kangaroo
- Lyuboslovie
- Spelling Bee
